The Aerogel Architecture Awards (AAA) were presented for the fourth time on the Empa campus and three objects each from the ‘realised solutions’ and ‘student projects’ categories were honoured. Below we present the three winners from the ‘realised solutions’ category.

The first place:

This is demonstrated by the ‘Stringi-Stringi’ project in Livorno, Italy. The historic building complex was built in 1939 as social housing with a partially rounded façade and has now been optimised in terms of energy efficiency with Aerogel.

Second place:

The project ‘Kindergarten Eversbuschsstrasse’ in Munich, Germany. A 120-year-old building, which had stood empty for the last 20 years, was converted into a modern integration kindergarten with a feel-good atmosphere.

Third place:

The ‘Andreas Schubert Building’ project in Dresden, Germany. The listed building from 1959 consists of a concrete structure with attached concrete panels for a unique exterior façade and was renovated with Aerogel high-performance insulating plaster.
